Green Tea: Weight Loss Supplement

A penny for your thoughts. A pill for your fats. Who here wouldn’t love a pill to melt away their fats? Although weight loss supplements are not likely to work miracles, dieticians and weight-loss experts alike agree that most weight loss supplements greatly helps the dieter in his continuing battle for curves and muscles. Of the three commonly used weight loss supplements in the market today, green tea extract seems the most promising. (The other two weight loss supplements are protein and ephedra.)

Green tea is the common name for Camellia sinensis, a plant cultivated by the Ancient Chinese as a remedy for headaches, indigestion, and depression. In recent studies, it was found that green tea can be a potential cure for cancer and several other major diseases as well.

However, the merits of green tea is not only restricted to medicine. It has been found that certain properties found in green tea makes it an excellent organic alternative to weight loss supplements.
The use of green tea extract in weigh loss supplements was spurred by the recently concluded study by American and Swiss scientists at the University of Geneva. Published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, their study showed that green tea has a lot of antioxidants that can cause an increase in energy expenditure of the body. This led them to surmise that green tea extract can become a potential weight loss supplement.
Green tea weight loss supplements contain both caffeine and the chemical epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). When these two substances in green tea react to each other, metabolism rates increase along with the body’s 24-hour energy expenditure. Green tea’s EGCG also triggers the release of the hormone noradrenaline, an appetite-suppressant.

Green tea weight loss supplements can boost the body’s metabolic rates, thereby increasing the rate by which fat and calories are burned. Green tea weight loss supplements can also stimulate the body into burning fats faster, leading to more fats being turned into energy. According to a recent study published in Phytomedicine, a journal on the health benefits of plants, people who take in green tea extract as weight loss supplement ideally lose about two-and-a-half pounds a month.

Green tea weight loss supplements come in standardized tablets or capsule forms. For best results, choose a green tea weight loss supplement that contains ninety milligrams of EGCG and fifty milligrams of caffeine. Green tea weight loss supplement is normally taken three times a day before meals. Even though green tea weight loss supplements have no adverse side-effects, it is still advisable to consult medical advice before taking them.

How to Find the Top Weight Loss Program for You

With more than 4500 diets and weight loss programs to select from, and various celebrities promoting the benefits of all of them, it is hard to decide which diet is the right diet for you.

The following are crucial steps to finding your optimal weight management plan:

Step One: First decide if you really need to lose weight by considering the following questions:

- What is your lifestyle? Are you generally more physically active or sedentary? Regular physical activity and healthy eating are

important, no matter what your weight or your Body Mass Index.

- What is your family history? Does high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or other weight-related ailments run in your family? If so, then it’s extremely important that you maintain a healthy weight.

- What is your personal weight history? People who have consistently gained (or repeatedly gained and lost) weight over the years need be careful of their health. Many experts say your Body Mass Index should not increase dramatically at any time of your life. Even a moderate weight gain in adulthood can increase your risk of diabetes, heart disease and more.

- How is your weight distributed? Extra weight near your stomach or midsection is a sure danger sign. This extra weight is an indicator of future health problems, including heart disease. A waist measurement of 40 inches or more in men and 35 inches or more in women indicates a health risk, particularly in people with a Body Mass Index of 25-34.

- What do the tests show? If your cholesterol and/or blood pressure levels are high and your BMI falls into the overweight or obese category, it’s important to lose weight and maintain that weight.

- How do you feel? If you are overweight, joint pain, shortness of breath, trouble sleeping and moodiness are sure signs that losing weight is a must – both for your health and your quality of life.

Step Two: What should you look for in a top weight loss program?

1. Your weight loss goals. How much do you need to lose? If you’re very overweight or obese, then consider a structured program with a nutritionist or guidance counselor and even group support. Losing large amounts of weight is a challenge and you deserve all of the support that you can get.

If you’re slightly or moderately overweight, consider a popular program that will teach you to make immediate lifestyle changes like portion control and better food choices. Both weight loss goals will benefit from an exercise program to not only assist in losing the weight but in maintaining your new weight.

2. Your weight loss personality. What is your weight loss personality? Some people tend to be impulsive eaters who can be tempted by the slightest suggestion. A pizza commercial on television prompts them to pick up the phone, and seeing a child eating an ice cream cone sends them to the local dairy. A chocolate bar or bag of chips on the counter doesn’t stand a chance.

Other people tend to eat without paying any attention to what or when they are eating. Nighttime snacking can be one of the

most difficult times. Social eaters eat when they’re out with friends, and if you’re a very social person then the weight can quickly build up. Emotional eaters eat when they’re upset, stressed, or feeling out of control.

It is important to know your personality so that you can determine what your challenges might be and thus choose a diet program that specifically addresses your particular issues. For example, if you’re a social eater then you may simply need a program that teaches portion control and proper nutrition so that when you’re out you make better, more conscious, food decisions.

3. Weight loss goals. To be successful, it helps to understand why you want to lose weight and how much weight you want to or need to lose. Before you begin a weight loss plan, ask yourself:

- Am I ready to lose weight?
- What is motivating me to lose weight and will it continue to motivate me until I reach my goal?
- How will I handle weight loss setbacks, plateaus, or a complete lack of progress?
- Can I focus on losing the weight? Can I commit completely to my weight loss goal?

4. Make sure the diet is safe. Any diet should include all of the recommended daily allowances for vitamins, minerals and protein. The weight loss diet should only be lower in calories, not in essential vitamins or minerals. Consult with your doctor if you’re unsure about any particular diet or weight loss program.

5. Slow, steady weight loss. Any top weight loss program worth its salt understands that lasting weight loss happens slowly. The diets that promise the loss of 30 pounds in 30 days are dangerous. With most diets, you can expect to lose a pound a week after the first week or two. Often the first two weeks of a diet will result in rapid weight loss due to the loss of fluid. This weight will generally be regained when you return to a more normal diet.

6. Fees. When inquiring about a commercial weight loss program, make sure to ask for a statement of the fees and costs of

additional items such as dietary supplements or foods.

Other important questions to ask of any potential weight loss program include:

- If there are support staff, who determines your weight loss goals – the staff or yourself?
- Is the support staff certified to assist you? Are there weight loss counselors, nutritionists, registered dietitians, doctors and exercise physiologists available for support and consultation?
- Are your food choices flexible and suitable? Do they meet your lifestyle needs?
- What percentage of people successfully completes the program?
- What is the average weight loss of people who finish the program?
- How long does it generally take to lose the weight?
- What percentage of participants has problems or side effects? What are they?
- Does the program encourage exercise as a part of the weight loss program?
- Does the program teach you lifestyle changes so that you can maintain your weight once you’ve reached your goal?
- Does the program provide what you are looking for? If you’re looking for a group support system, does the program meet those needs? If you’re looking for a structured meal plan, does it provide that structure?
- Does the program utilize weight loss medications? If your chosen program suggests weight loss medication, supplements or

‘alternative remedies’, you should first speak with your doctor.

- Does the program screen you for health risks? If you are extremely overweight, you should look for a program that takes your health situation and risks into consideration when making recommendations.

- Does your program include plans for weight maintenance after you’ve reached your target weight? Yo-Yo dieting is detrimental to your health. It is important to find a program that teaches you how to maintain a healthy weight for life.

Any top weight loss program should be accompanied by body detox diet plans and colon cleansing diet. The benefits are manifold but the huge one is better health.

Weight Loss Psychology

The following paragraphs summarize the work of Weight Loss Psychology experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of Weight Loss. Heed their advice to avoid any diet surprises.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.
You see the razor-thin models gracing the covers of magazines, you watch actors and actresses on the big screen who seem to never gain a pound. And you wonder: How do I differ from them? You may be surprised to learn that a number of famous people at one time had difficulty maintaining a healthy weight. But they were able to conquer their problem, thanks to a new-and-improved, healthy view of eating.

You may not realize it, but there is a certain psychology at work in successful weight loss. It is no surprise, then, that the magazine Psychology Today has explored the issue in-depth. In October of 2004, the magazine posted an article on its website detailing the experiences of Diane Berry, a nurse practitioner who studied women who had shed at least 15 pounds and had maintained their weight loss for an average of seven years.

The women shared some important things in common. For instance, they all achieved their weight loss through either Weight Watchers or TOPS, which meant that they had a firm support network as they tried to maintain their weight. The group meetings were highly important, because they learned to recognize that they were certainly not alone in their struggles with weight. The women were also quite unusual because up to 90 percent of individuals who have lost weight end up putting it back on within five years.

Another common trait of these women is that they appeared to undergo a profound mood shift as they made the transition from fat to thin. From all indications, they appeared to be depressed when they were heavy but, as they attempted to lose weight, their mood brightened.

For these women, healthy eating became a habit?a habit they refused to break. They themselves recognized the tremendous role that psychology plays in weight loss. They refused to give in to negative feelings of frustration and denial and chose a positive path instead. The women also made it a point to weigh themselves regularly so that they could chart their progress.

And they recognized that maintaining weight loss would be a lifetime struggle. They knew that they could not attempt a weight loss program then put it back on the shelf. They had to learn new eating patterns that they could continue week in and week out. In some cases, they likened their struggle to that of an alcoholic. In other words, they recognized the gravity of their problem and took steps to correct the situation.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of these women’s experiences was the fact that their weight loss actually came in spurts. At times, they regained their weight, but they did not let that deter them from their final goal. They simply viewed their setbacks as challenges that they needed to overcome. This may be the key psychological trait that separates successful dieters from unsuccessful ones?perseverance. In essence, these women were able to change their personalities in a positive way in order to achieve their long-term weight loss goals.

Another interesting aspect of this study was that it showed that the women who had undergone weight loss transformation were genuinely happy. This shows the tremendous psychological impact that weight loss can have on an individual. Once an individual is free from the burden of extra weight, he or she is better able to meet the challenges of life head-on. The dieter benefits from positive reinforcement, as relatives, friends, and co-workers congratulate him or her for the weight loss. In this way, losing weight can be quite a life-affirming experience and can lead to a more optimistic outlook on life.

It must be noted here that the psychology of weight loss is a complicated matter. There is no single ingredient that can turn a fat person into a thin one. However, recognizing that there is a psychological component to successful weight loss may, in fact, be half the battle. Once an individual recognizes that he or she is engaged in a psychological fight, he or she is better able to do battle. By retraining oneself to seek healthy approaches to diet, one can, in effect, mold oneself into a new individual?one that no longer lives to eat, but simply eats to live.

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation to take action.

Weight Loss and Money

Weight loss doesn’t have to be expensive but combined many of us spend a fortune each year in our quest to lose weight. The reason we do this is quite simple. We are always on the lookout for the next sure thing that is going to act as a shortcut towards losing weight. The fact remains that there are no real shortcuts towards weight loss.

It takes time to lose weight, just as it took time to gain weight. Nobody has ever gone to bed thin and woke up overweight the next morning. It takes months or years for people to become overweight but many of those people expect to lose weight in a matter of weeks, and when this doesn’t happen they feel disappointed and give up trying.

Many industries that have sprung up around the issue of weight loss produce and try to sell products that are claimed to be the holy grail of weight loss. The truth is that no one product is going to achieve what it promises. Successful weight loss is based on a combination of actions which will include:

Eating smaller meals more frequently
Replacing unhealthy foods with healthy foods
Being more active in your life
Having a varied exercise plan
Changing the way that you think of yourself

Unfortunately people linger on to the small hope that the next miracle product will help them lose weight. They buy it then when they realise that it is not working for them, what do they do? They wait for the next product to appear, and they continue to follow the same process again and again.

Deep down most people will know what they have to do to lose weight, but on the whole they tend to ignore this knowledge, and while they keep doing this, they will keep failing. If there was one particular product that could guarantee the results it promised, then everyone would use it and weight issues would not be a problem. However there is no such thing as a miracle weight loss product that is going to work for the majority of people.

Let us look at 2 types of products which are basically money making machines for the people that produce and sell them.

Fitness DVDs

The industry of fitness DVDs is huge. Celebrities release or endorse them with promises of helping you to get the type of body that you have always dreamed of. They tell you that a certain method of exercising has helped them get the bodies that they have, and now you too can get the same body by buying their DVDs. Admittedly many of the exercises on these types of products can be beneficial, but that is not the whole story.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that these people look the way that they do because of the product that they are trying to sell you, because they don’t.

Remember that they can afford to hire the best personal trainers to help them achieve their goals.

Remember that they can afford to buy the healthiest foods.

Remember that they can afford to have their homes equipped with professional gym equipment.

Remember that the main reason that they initially became celebrities was because they already were beautiful and had great bodies. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have great genetics.

Remember that if all else fails, they have the money to pay for all their fat to be sucked out of them through medical procedures.

Buying some celebrity’s DVD is not going to guarantee to give you the body that they have unless you fall into the majority of the above.

Another thing to keep in mind is why do celebrities make and endorse these types of products?

Do they really want to help people who are desperate to lose weight?
Did they suddenly get this selfless thought during an expensive facial?
Do they really want to make life better for you?
Do they know you?
Do they care about you?

My guess is that most of these celebrities make these products to make life even better for themselves by persuading you to give them your money. Perhaps I am being too cynical; perhaps they do genuinely care about your welfare. I know, after purchasing one of their products try contacting them personally. Ask for some advice on exercise or weight loss. I’m sure they would be more than happy to help you; after all they do want to help you. They tell you as much on their DVD.

Exercise products

More people waste money on exercise gadgets than anything else. People see the adverts, the persuasive hard sell, and the selfless endorsements. Before you know what’s happened, you have swiped out your credit card and placed your order. You wait religiously for 28 days for your product to arrive. You have visions about how great you are going to look after using this machine.

The reality is very different to your visions. The reality is that you will use the product a few times, realise that it’s harder than you thought, and you will hide it away in some dark corner so you don’t have to be reminded of how much money you have wasted.

Have you ever noticed how well muscled and toned the people in the adverts are? Did these people really get 18in arms by pulling a few cables 5 minutes a day? Did these people really get toned and tanned bodies just from the product that they are using?

Of course there are other people on these advertisements who used to be overweight and are now slim. They imply that their results came directly from the product. Did they achieve what they did without changing their diets and lifestyles? Why would these people say that they owed their success to a particular product?

If you had lost a lot of weight and someone told you that they would give you a couple of thousand bucks if you said your weight loss was a result of their product, would you refuse? I know that I wouldn’t.

The fact is that people can be persuaded to buy anything through clever advertising. The most important thing that you have to keep in mind is no product is going to make you lose weight, only you can do that. Any product is only going to be a part of a weight loss plan. The most important parts of any weight loss plan are going to be motivation, commitment, determination, and perseverance. Focus on these 4 factors and you will lose weight. Without these 4 factors you will not.
